Making A Difference

Legato is proud to make a difference in the communities chosen by its clients for development. Whether the impact is felt within an individual unit of a development, within a few blocks of the new building, or within an entire community or region, each of Legato’s development projects makes a lasting impact on the community being served.  A few examples of the positive impacts follow.

Arrowhead Gardens - Wanting to Dance

Spring 2011 - SHAG/ILI Newsletter

The staff at Arrowhead Gardens holds monthly Happy Hours for residents to meet their neighbors, socialize and build community. One Happy Hour was modified to include a resident dance, complete with a DJ providing fun music from the '40s, '50s and '60s.  This type of event and celebration is common at SHAG/ILI communities, though this particular story transends the usual fun of such events and is truly heart-warming.

During the dance a new resident shyly spoke with staff and explained that she had been widowed over a decade ago. She eased into the fun with her neighbors and enjoyed several dances that evening. She later stated to staff with a huge smile on her face, "I haven't danced in over ten years."  Then, with a sparkle in her joyful eyes she went on to say "I haven't wanted to dance in over ten years.  Thank you!  Thank you!  I sure hope we can do this again."

This story is one of my favorites not just because it so beautifully enhanced the life of one senior, but because it is a perfect example of the difference we can make in the lives of our residents.  It is not always easy to make a difference among the day-to-day responsibilties, but the effort is surely worth the reward when we successfully enhance our residents' lives.

What can we do to make our residents want to dance?

Ralston House - A Letter of Appreciation

Thursday, September 22, 2005

Dear Sirs,

Thank you.  Thank you for investing your time and money to develop Ralston House, this lovely home for seniors.  I moved in over the weekend and could not be happier with the facilities, the staff and the surroundings.

Bill, JoAnn and Becky do everything to make the residents feel at home, comfortable and secure. Introductions and camaraderie are encouraged and the “gathering room” is becoming a place to stop and chat, both coming and going.

Having the computers available to residents with the Internet just a click away is special. Thank you for that too.  I hope to help more of my new friends learn to navigate the Internet and send e-mail to their families.  Learning something new is important at any age, even for us oldsters.

Again, thank you.  Know that you are making a difference in the lives of many seniors and we appreciate it.
